Friday Mood Recs: 10 excellent road trip novels to read this summer

This week I recorded a This American Lit podcast episode about the classic American “road” trip novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Because I recorded this right after having seen The Odyssey, the concept of Huck Finn as an American Odyssey was front of mind. This sort of journey novel, most commonly configured as a road trip story, is a fairly unique American sub-genre. What I personally love about these books is the way they serve simultaneously as entertaining, plot-filled novels and metaphors for the emotional or moral journeys undergone by their characters.
