💬 The Reading Room: What Book(s) Do You Still Think About, Even Years Later?
Hello!
Welcome back to The Reading Room (formerly Friday Threads). If you missed The Reading Room’s opening last week, you can catch up here and share your best books of the year so far too!
This week I’ve been thinking about some of the books that have stayed with me, even though I may have read them years ago. For me personally, it can be certain characters that I remember, but often it’s a combination of intriguing characters, compelling plot, and memorable themes explored that combine to give a book staying power in my mind.
I find it fascinating that I can immediately recall the names of the characters in my all time favorite book —Jude, Willem, JB, Malcom, Harold from A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara (no I did not cheat and look those up:) —which I read in 2015, but I've already forgotten the names of just about all the characters from the books I read last month. I know I have a huge emotional connection to A Little Life, likely because it was quite devastating to read, but also those characters became real people in my mind and they’ve stayed that way all these years later.
Below the paywall….deeper reading about about why books stay with us, more books that have stayed with me, what I’ve been reading this week (I finished The Shampoo Effect + two more books) and what I’ve been watching. Plus the lively comment section.
