May Reads Ranked
$5 Friday
Before we dive into my reads from May, today is the first Friday of June, which means it is $5 Friday! This is a chance for you to donate $5 (or more) to an organization and check off your one good deed for the day. Easy peasy. This month, we’re donating to I AM ALS in honor of ’s father, who passed away this year from the disease. I set up a $5 Friday fundraising page for us so we can track what we give. As always, if giving isn’t feasible this month, please share this post/the link with folks in your community to spread the word and have a few more dollars donated toward this great cause.
For those keeping track1, last month, we ended up donating $1,885 to The Loveland Foundation. Can we match that in June?
I did a lot of reading in May, and a lot of DNF’ing as I was hunting for the perfect books to add to my Nonfiction Reading Guide (NRG). That means the books I did finish this month, for the most part, were really, really good. They’re all ranked for you below and in a 15-minute mini-podcast. Both the guide and the ranking are for paid subscribers, so like, now feels like a good time to upgrade.
Before we get to the rankings I’ve got a very quick little recap of all The Stacks episodes from May.
The Stacks May Recap
Chanda Prescod-Weinstein came back to The Stacks to talk about her new book, The Edge of Space-Time. Don’t worry if you’re not into science, you just hadn’t met Chanda yet.
mj corey came on the show to talk about her new book Dekonstructing the Kardashians and the ways the family has impacted our media landscape.
You probably think you don’t care about Shakespeare in translation, but you’d be wrong. This month’s bonus episode with author and translator Daniel Hahn about his book, If This Be Magic, and the art of translation was fascinating. Truly, nerd heaven.
Imani Thompson, debut author of Honey, came on the podcast to talk about women who kill, revenge, and how she came to write this novel.
This month’s book club conversation around Lonely Crowds with Chanda Prescod-Weinstein was wonderful.
May Reads Ranked
Here are the 11 books I read in May ranked from least to most favorite. I had a very, very, very good reading month because I was really only finishing things I really wanted to be reading, thanks to the stress of trying to finish my reading guide. So yeah, pretty much not a dud in the bunch. Lucky me.
