Everything You Know About Postpartum is Wrong

A root-cause framework for postpartum healing that challenges outdated care models Conventional postpartum care operates on myths that leave mothers under-supported-the assumption that recovery takes six weeks, or that mood disorders are purely hormonal. Everything You Know About Postpartum is Wrong: The Science, the Sacred, and the Future of Maternal Care confronts these systemic failures directly. Maranda Bower, a biological researcher and founder of Postpartum University®, integrates evidence-based science with ancestral wisdom to present a holistic framework for genuine postpartum recovery.

Structured in three parts, the book examines the historical context behind broken postpartum care, dismantles persistent myths that keep mothers sick, and presents a new model integrating science, tradition, and holistic healing. It addresses nutrient depletion, hormonal imbalances, and the need for sustained long-term support. Actionable strategies equip both providers and mothers to advocate for meaningful change in how postpartum health is understood and practiced.

Readers will also find: A critical analysis of the medical, historical, and cultural roots of inadequate postpartum support systems Practical strategies for addressing nutrient depletion and hormonal imbalances through root-cause approaches rather than symptom management Frameworks for reintegrating ancestral nourishment rituals and community support into modern postpartum care practices Evidence-based tools for identifying and debunking common postpartum myths that perpetuate maternal suffering Guidance for providers seeking to redesign their postpartum care protocols around long-term maternal well-being Written for postpartum care providers-midwives, OB/GYNs, doulas, and holistic practitioners-as well as mothers seeking better support, this book provides a structured, evidence-informed path to replacing outdated models with care that treats the postpartum period as a profound transformation requiring sustained nourishment, community, and clinical attention.
