You know what? It is crazy that we have to have a Monday morning every single week. Like, are we okay? I hope my little musings on the random shit that went down last week from Megan and Klay to the White House Correspondents Dinner perk you up today.

This Week in The Stacks

Last week I talked about things. I do this every week. Revolutionary.

came on the podcast to talk about “unlikable” women finding love and writing her debut romance novel, Don’t Tell Me How It Ends in the midst of her divorce.

I answered all your questions about the LA Times Festival of Books aka Bookchella. If you’ve ever wanted to know the ins and outs of a book festival, I’ve got you.

Books I Read This Week

Charlotte’s Web by E. B. White
You all already know what this book is about, but just in case, it is the story of a pig and a spider becoming friends. I love this book. It is an all-timer. I read it aloud to the Minis this time around and they loved it, too. What I have picked up on in the story in both of my adult rereads is how concerned it is with (unintentionally) the invisible labor of women. I love that for the kids. Charlotte is out here busting her ass for her friend and the humans are all talking about “some pig”. Could you imagine being Charlotte? Truly a metaphor for our times.
Fave of the Week

Maya and the Robot by Eve L. Ewing
A fifth grader, Maya, is having a tough time at the start of fifth grade when she comes across an almost functioning robot. This book is so nerdy and sweet in the best ways. I loved Maya and her family and found so much heart and humor throughout the story, there is a lot packed in the book (in a good way) which made the world come to life. It is a book about science, and friendship, and community, problem solving, and and and.

This week on Here & Now I talked about the joys of reading a physical book.1

This coming Saturday, May 2nd, I’ll be participating in Los Angeles Public Library’s Night at the Library. I’m doing a little interview show with readers in the stacks2. All the details for the event are here (there are performances, food trucks, activities, games, bookstore pop-ups and more). Come hang!

Things I Love…

Books

It was Indie Bookstore day this weekend, and I loved seeing everyone posting about their favorite indies. Good clean wholesome fun. The above video is from my fave LA indie, Reparations Club and I couldn’t love it more. Plus I get a quick cameo.3

Megan Thee Stallion Supports Klay Thompson at Game & Gifts Him A Chain

Megan Thee Stallion dumped Klay Thompson in a very public way because he was cheating. I hate this for her. I do love the way the internet has been dragging Klay. I am sad though, because as a Warriors fan and a devout Klaytheist, I really believed he was worthy of her greatness. I was rooting for him4 we were all rooting for him. But you know how the old saying goes, men ain’t shit.

This is what Meg put in her stories this weekend.
